SUPPLEMENTARY TABLES

Following the links below will display tables listing the top 100 most common English words for the selected years. Once a table is displayed, it is possible to select up to which rank the results should be displayed, as well as the number of words to consider. Note that the n-gram terminology is adopted. An n-gram is made up of a series of n 1-grams, and a 1-gram is a string of characters uninterrupted by a space. Note that a 1-gram is not necessarily a word, for it may be a number or a typo as well. Most frequently, however, a 1-gram is a word, a 2-gram is a phrase made up of two words, and a 5-gram is a phrase made up of five words. Different years can be selected at all times. All words and phrases in the tables are linked to the Google Ngram Viewer for a 100 years into the past and future (if available) from the selected year. Please note that the tables listing top 10.000 n-grams are quite extensive and thus may load slowly. The file size for top 10.000 5-grams is approximately 11.3 MB.
